McDEARMON, James Calvin, a
Representative from Tennessee; born in New Canton, Buckingham
County, Va., June 13, 1844; moved with his parents to Gibson
County, Tenn., in 1846; attended Andrew College, Trenton, Tenn.,
1858-1861; entered the Confederate Army in April 1862 and served
throughout the war in Cheatham’s division, Army of the
Tennessee; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1867 and
commenced practice in Trenton, Tenn.; elected as a Democrat to the
Fifty-third and Fifty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1893-March 3,
1897); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1896; resumed the
practice of his profession; died in Trenton, Gibson County, Tenn.,
July 19, 1902; interment in Oakwood Cemetery.
