J.D., Marquette University School of Law, Milwaukee, Wis., 1970;
lawyer, private practice; unsuccessful candidate for nomination to
the One Hundred Second Congress in 1990; member, Republican
National Committee; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred
Third and to the nine succeeding Congresses (January 3,
1993-present); chair, Committee on Small Business (One Hundred
Seventh through One Hundred Ninth Congresses).
