Edward LLOYD, Congress, MD (1744-1796)

LLOYD, Edward, (father of Edward Lloyd [1779-1834]), a Delegate from Maryland; born at “Wye House,“ Talbot County, Md., December 15, 1744; completed preparatory studies; member of the lower house in the General Assembly of Maryland 1771-1774; member of the committee of safety for the Eastern Shore in 1775 and of the provincial convention in 1776; served on the executive council 1777-1779; member of the State house of delegates in 1780; served in the State senate in 1781, 1786, and 1791; Member of the Continental Congress 1783-1784; member of the State constitutional convention which ratified the Federal Constitution April 28, 1788; died at “Wye House,“ July 8, 1796; interment in the family burying ground at “Wye House“ plantation, ten miles northwest of Easton, Md.
