September 14, 1946; graduated from McKell High School, McKell, Ky.,
1964; B.A., University of Kentucky, Lexington, Ky., 1969; M.A.,
Morehead State University, Morehead, Ky., 1981; United States Navy
Officer Candidate School, Pensacola, Fla., 1972; faculty, Watterson
College, Pasadena, Calif., 1980; ordained clergyman and minister,
White Mills Baptist Church, White Mills, Ky.; elected as a
Republican to the One Hundred Third Congress, by special election
to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States
Representative William Natcher, reelected to the seven succeeding
Congresses (May 24, 1994-January 3, 2009); was not a candidate for
reelection to the One Hundred Eleventh Congress in 2008.
