James LANDY, Congress, PA (1813-1875)

LANDY James , a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Northern Liberties District, Philadelphia, Pa., October 13, 1813; attended the public schools; studied law, but abandoned the same and engaged in mercantile pursuits; member of the board of school commissioners in 1845; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1857-March 3, 1859); unsuccessful candidate for reelection; elected chief commissioner of highways in 1862; died in Philadelphia, Pa., July 25, 1875; interment in Monument Cemetery.
