Ebenezer KNOWLTON, Congress, ME (1815-1874)

KNOWLTON Ebenezer , a Representative from Maine; born in Pittsfield, N.H., December 6, 1815; moved with his parents to South Montville, Maine, in 1825; attended the common schools; studied theology and entered the ministry; member of the State house of representatives 1844-1850 and served as speaker in 1846; elected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1855-March 3, 1857); resumed his ministerial duties; died in South Montville, Maine, September 10, 1874; interment in the City Cemetery.
