Representative from Michigan; born in Mattoon, Coles County, Ill.,
November 28, 1933; attended public schools; B.S., Eastern Illinois

elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Third and to the eight
succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1993-January 3, 2009);
unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Eleventh
Congress in 2008.
