Dak., 1950-1954; served on subcommittee of Federal Intergovernmental Relations Committee on Local Government (ex-Hoover Commission); president and treasurer of Gold Seal Co., 1946-1964; vice president, J.M. Dain &Co., Minneapolis investment banking firm; Republican nominee for United States Senate in 1964; delegate, North Dakota Republican convention, 1966; former treasurer of the Republican Party of North Dakota; elected as a Republican to the Ninetieth and to the Ninety-first Congresses (January 3, 1967-January 3, 1971); was not a candidate in 1970 for reelection but was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate; Administrator of the Small Business Administration, 1971-1975; Secretary of the Interior, 1975-1977; faculty, University of Wyoming, 1977; died on March 2, 2007, in Bethesda, Md.
