Philip KEY, Congress, MD (1750-1820)

KEY Philip , a Representative from Maryland; born probably on his father's estate near Leonardtown, St. Mary's County, Md. in 1750; pursued an academic course in England; returned to Maryland and engaged in farming; studied law; was admitted to the bar and practiced; served in the Maryland house of delegates in 1773; member of the committee of correspondence, St. Mary's County, in 1774; again a member of the house of delegates 1779-1790; elected as a Pro-Administration candidate to the Second Congress (March 4, 1791-March 3, 1793); member of the State house of delegates in 1795 and 1796 and served as speaker; died in St. Mary's County, Md., January 4, 1820; interment probably in the churchyard at Chaptico, Md.
