KANE, Nicholas Thomas, a
Representative from New York; born in County Waterford, Ireland,
September 12, 1846; immigrated to the United States when a boy and
settled near Albany, N.Y.; attended the common schools; enlisted in
the Union Army in 1863 and served until 1865; engaged in mercantile
pursuits; represented Watervliet on the Albany County Board of
Supervisors 1883-1885; elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth
Congress and served from March 4, 1887, until his death in Albany,
N.Y., September 14, 1887, before the assembling of the Congress;
interment in St. Agnes Cemetery, Colonie, Albany County, N.Y.
