admitted to the Georgia state bar, 1958; lawyer, private practice;
staff, Federal Bureau of Investigation, 1951; United States Coast
Guard, 1952-1955; staff, United States Representative Phillip M.
Ladrum, 1959-1962; Pickens County, Ga., attorney, 1968-1972;
assistant United States attorney, Northern District of Georgia,
1962-1964; elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fifth and to the
seven succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1977-January 3, 1993); was
not a candidate for renomination to the One Hundred Third Congress
in 1992; is a resident of Jasper, Ga.
