HUNGERFORD, John Newton, a
Representative from New York; born in Vernon, Oneida County, N.Y.,
December 31, 1825; completed preparatory studies; was graduated
from Hamilton College at Clinton, N.Y., in 1846; settled in
Corning, N.Y., in 1848 and engaged in the banking business;
delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1872; elected as
a Republican to the Forty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1877-March 3,
1879); resumed banking business; died in Corning, N.Y., April 2,
1883; interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Watkins Glen, N.Y.
