Hamilton County, Ohio, October 17, 1932; graduated from the Darrow
School, New Lebanon, N.Y., 1946-1950; A.B., Princeton University,
Princeton, N.J., 1954; B.D., Union Theological Seminary, New York,
N.Y., 1957; clergyman, ordained in Rochester, N.Y., 1957; member,
Indianapolis, Ind., board of public safety, 1970-1972; elected as a
Republican to the Ninety-third Congress (January 3, 1973-January 3,
1975); unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Ninety-fourth
Congress in 1974; mayor, Indianapolis, Ind., 1976-1991; mayor,
Chevy Chase, Md., 2004 to present.
