HUBBARD, Joel Douglas, a
Representative from Missouri; born near Marshall, Saline County,
Mo., November 6, 1860; attended the public schools and Central
College, Fayette, Mo.; was graduated from the Missouri Medical
College at St. Louis in 1882; practiced medicine in Syracuse,
Morgan County, Mo., until 1886; county clerk 1886-1894; elected as
a Republican to the Fifty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1895-March 3,
1897); was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1896 to the
Fifty-fifth Congress; studied law; was admitted to the Missouri bar
in 1899 and commenced practice in Versailles, Mo.; also engaged in
the banking business; practiced medicine in Sedalia, Mo., in 1904
and 1905; returned to Versailles and resumed the practice of law
and his banking interests; moved to El Paso, Tex., in 1917 and
continued the practice of law; died in Tampa, Fla., on May 26,
1919; interment in Versailles Cemetery, Versailles, Mo.
