Elias HOWELL

(1792-1844)

HOWELL, Elias, (father of James Bruen Howell), a Representative from Ohio; born in New Jersey in 1792; attended the public schools; moved to Newark, Ohio, in 1819; member of the State senate 1830-1832; elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1835-March 3, 1837); was not a candidate for renomination; died near Newark, Ohio, in May 1844.
