HAMBLETON, Samuel, a
Representative from Maryland; born at “Waterloo” farm,
Talbot County, Md., January 8, 1812; educated by private tutors and
attended Easton Academy; studied law; was admitted to the bar in
1833 and commenced practice in Easton, Talbot County, Md.; member
of the State house of delegates in 1834 and 1835; State’s
attorney for Talbot County 1836-1844; served in the State senate
1844-1850; president of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal in 1853 and
1854; again a member of the State house of delegates in 1853;
elected as a Democrat to the Forty-first and Forty-second
Congresses (March 4, 1869-March 3, 1873); died in Easton, Md.,
December 9, 1886; interment in Spring Hill Cemetery.
