Oconee County, S.C. 1988-1992; city attorney for Central, S.C.
1990-1994; member of the South Carolina state house of
representatives 1992-1994; elected as a Republican to the House of
Representatives for the One Hundred Fourth and to the three
succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1995-January 3, 2003); one of the
managers appointed by the House of Representatives in 1998 to
conduct the impeachment proceedings against President William
Clinton; was not a candidate for reelection in 2002, but was
elected as a Republican to the U.S. Senate in 2002; reelected in
2008 for the term ending January 3, 2015.
