FERRELL, Thomas Merrill, a
Representative from New Jersey; born in Glassboro, Gloucester
County, N.J., June 20, 1844; attended the common schools and
completed an academic course; elected a member of the township
committee in 1872 and 1873; president of Hollow Ware
Glassworkers’ Association 1878-1883; member of the school
board 1885-1890, serving as its president in 1887; member of the
State house of assembly in 1879 and 1880; member of the State
senate in 1880 and 1881; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth
Congress (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1885); unsuccessful candidate for
reelection in 1884 to the Forty-ninth Congress; employed as a
glassware salesman; died in Glassboro, N.J., October 20, 1916;
interment in Methodist Episcopal Cemetery.
