EVANS, Thomas, a
Representative from Virginia; born in Accomac County, Va.; attended
the public schools and William and Mary College at Williamsburg;
studied law and was admitted to the bar; member of the State house
of delegates in 1780, 1781, and 1794-1796; elected as a Federalist
to the Fifth and Sixth Congresses (March 4, 1797-March 3, 1801);
one of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in
1798 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against William Blount,
a Senator from Tennessee; moved to Wheeling, Va. (now West
Virginia), in 1802; member of the State house of representatives in
1805 and 1806.
