EDSALL, Joseph E., a
Representative from New Jersey; born in Rudeville, near Hamburg,
Sussex County, N.J., in 1789; attended the common schools; engaged
in mercantile pursuits; operated a distillery and a tannery; served
as county clerk; member of the New Jersey house of assembly; served
as judge of the court of common pleas; elected as a Democrat to the
Twenty-ninth and Thirtieth Congresses (March 4, 1845-March 3,
1849); died in Hamburg, N.J., in 1865; interment in the Baptist
Burying Ground.
