Mass.; B.A., Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vt., 1963; J.D.,
Boston College School of Law, Chestnut Hill, Mass., 1967; United
States Coast Guard Reserves, 1963-1971; lawyer, private practice;
member of the Massachusetts state house of representatives,
1973-1975; Norfolk County, Mass., district attorney, 1975-1996;
elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Fifth and to the six
succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1997-January 3, 2011); not a
candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Twelfth Congress in
2010
