DAVENPORT Thomas , a Representative from Virginia; born in Cumberland County, Va.; completed preparatory studies; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Meadville, Va.; elected as Jacksonian to the Nineteenth through the Twenty-second Congresses, and elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-third Congress (March 4, 1825-March 3, 1835); chairman, Committee on Public Expenditures (Twenty-third Congress); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1834 to the Twenty-fourth Congress; died near Meadville, Halifax County, Va., November 18, 1838.
