COX, James, a
Representative from New Jersey; born in Monmouth, N.J., June 14,
1753; attended the public schools; commanded a company of militia
at the Battles of Germantown and of Monmouth and attained the rank
of brigadier general; member of the State general assembly
1801-1807, and served as speaker 1804-1807; elected as a Republican
to the Eleventh Congress and served from March 4, 1809, until his
death in Monmouth, N.J., September 12, 1810; interment in the
Yellow Meeting House Cemetery, Upper Freehold Township, N.J.
