CHAPPELL William Venroe, Jr. , a Representative from Florida; born in Kendrick, Marion County, Fla., February 3, 1922; University of Florida, B.A., 1947, LL.B., 1949, and J.D., 1967; served in the United States Navy, aviator, 1942-1946; retired as a captain from United States Naval Reserve in 1983; Marion County prosecuting attorney, 1950-1954; elected to Florida house of representatives, 1954-1964, speaker, 1961-1963; did not seek reelection in 1964 but was elected again in 1966; member, law firm of Chappell & Rowland, Ocala, Fla.; elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-first and to the nine succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1969-January 3, 1989); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1988 to the One Hundred First Congress; was a resident of Ocala, Fla., until his death in Bethesda, Md., on March 30, 1989; interment in Kendrick Memorial Gardens, Ocala, Marion County, Fla.
