George Albert CASTOR, Congress, PA (1855-1906)

CASTOR George Albert , a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Holmesburg (a part of the city of Philadelphia), Pa., August 6, 1855; attended the public schools; entered a cloth house early in life and subsequently became a merchant tailor with large establishments in New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia; retired from active business pursuits in 1875; unsuccessful candidate for the Republican nomination of Congressman at Large in 1892; member of the Republican city committee for fifteen years; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-eighth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Henry Burk; reelected to the Fifty-ninth Congress and served from February 16, 1904, until his death in Philadelphia, Pa., February 19, 1906; interment in Emanuel Prostestant Episcopal Cemetery, Holmesburg, Pa.
