Samuel BUTMAN, Congress, ME (1788-1864)

BUTMAN Samuel , a Representative from Maine; born in Worcester, Worcester County, Mass., in 1788; moved to Maine in 1804, and settled in Dixmont, Penobscot County; engaged in agricultural pursuits; served as a captain in the War of 1812; member of the State constitutional convention in 1820; member of the house of representatives of Maine in 1822, 1826, and 1827; elected as an Adams candidate to the Twentieth Congress and as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-first Congress (March 4, 1827-March 3, 1831); county commissioner of Penobscot County in 1846; served in the State senate and was its president in 1853; died in Plymouth, Maine, October 9, 1864.
