BRYAN, Joseph, a
Representative from Georgia; born in Savannah, Ga., August 18,
1773; was educated by private tutors and attended Oxford University
in England; traveled in France during the Revolutionary War;
engaged in agricultural pursuits on Wilmington Island, Ga.; elected
as a Republican to the Eighth and Ninth Congresses and served from
March 4, 1803, until his resignation in 1806; engaged in planting;
died on his estate, “Nonchalance,” Wilmington Island,
near Savannah, Ga., on September 12, 1812; interment in the family
burial ground on his estate.
