1967; assistant attorney general of Missouri 1969; State auditor
1970; Governor of Missouri 1973-1977, 1980-1985; elected as a
Republican to the United States Senate in 1986; reelected in 1992,
1998 and 2004, and served from January 3, 1987, to January 3, 2011;
chair, Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship (One
Hundred Fourth through One Hundred Sixth Congresses, One Hundred
Seventh Congress [January 20, 2001-June 6, 2001]); was not a
candidate for reelection to the Senate in 2010.
