BENNET, Benjamin, a
Representative from New Jersey; born in Bucks County, Pa., October
31, 1764; attended the common schools; studied theology; was
ordained as a minister in Middletown, Monmouth County, N.J., in
1793 and served as pastor of a Baptist church in that city; also
engaged in agricultural pursuits; elected as a Republican to the
Fourteenth and Fifteenth Congresses (March 4, 1815-March 3, 1819);
resumed agricultural pursuits; died on his farm near Middletown,
N.J., October 8, 1840; interment in the Baptist Cemetery, Holmdel,
N.J.
