Bradford High School, Kenosha, Wis., 1973; B.S., University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, 1977; attended Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass.; M.A., University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, 1982; employment specialist; special education teacher; director of camp for handicapped children; distribution manager; chairman of the Kenosha County Democratic Party; member of the Wisconsin state assembly, 1985-1993, 2009-present, minority leader, 2011-present; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Third Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Leslie Aspin (May 4, 1993-January 3, 1995); unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Fourth Congress in 1994.
