Malcom McLean

Malcom McLean invented containerized shipping which revolutionized the shipping industry. Born in Maxton, North Carolina, McLean ended his education with high school. During the Great Depression, McLean became a trucker and eventually built his own trucking company, for which he designed a container system that greatly reduced time, labor costs, and damage to cargo. His shipping method reduced costs by 25 percent and his company, SeaLand Industries became the largest cargo-shipping business in the world. He died May 25, 2001.
