Hazlewood's first hit as a songwriter was “The Fool” recorded by Sanford Clark in 1956 following the start of his company, Viv Records, in 1955. He pioneered several music genres, including a sound that fused country-western and symphonic pop orchestration called “cowboy psychedelia.”
