Jean Simmons, a versatile British actress who starred in several hit
films of the 1940s, '50's, and '60s, played roles that ranged from a
blackmailing maid to Shakespeare's Ophelia to a seductive murderer. She
earned Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominations for her performance in
Hamlet and The Happy Ending. Her
other films include Great Expectations, Guys and Dolls,
and Spartacus.
