Best Known as: Olympic foil fencer
Former champion foil fencer known for her longevity in the sport.
She won 10 national championships, and was the first woman who competed in
six consecutive Olympic Games from 1948 to 1968. At her last Olympics she
became the first woman to carry the U.S. flag during the opening ceremony.
In the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics she served as commissioner of
fencing.
