Died: Oct. 2, 2007 (Manhattan, New York)
Best Known as: architecture critic for the New York Times
Well-known architecture critic and writer for the New York Times from 1992 to 2004. His deeply personal and wildly original reviews made him an extremely influential architecture critic of his generation. He was open to new talent during a time when architecture was in the public spotlight due to repetitive battles between modernists and post-modernists. He was equally as interested in the ideas that pushed architecture forward as the successes and failures of the buildings themselves.
