Best Known as:former United States figure skating champion
A two-time United States figure skating champion known for his
crowd-pleasing charismatic and athletic performances. He was a former
child actor in “Little House on the Prairie” whose flair on the ice earned
him the nickname Bowman the Showman. Bowman won silver at the 1989 and a
bronze medal at the 1990 World Championships, finished seventh at the
Calgary Olympics in 1988, and fourth at the Albertville Olympics in 1992.
He struggled with drug abuse for many years, which included a serious
cocaine addiction that started in 1987. Without random drug testing in
skating and his ability to stop using before an event prevented him from
ever being caught. Bowman took pride in his skating, though, and was
dedicated to the sport.
