 The Question:
A non-profit organization with which I am involved is trying to
increase awareness of teen depression and suicide prevention. We have
learned that there is a Children Depression Awareness Day and a
Suicide Prevention Week but have no idea where these events fall on
the calendar. Do you?
The Answer:
The ninth annual Children Depression Awareness Day was held on
May 9, 2006. It's part of Mental Health Month, which takes place in
May. You can get information about both on the website of the National Mental Health
Association.
Suicide Prevention Week is observed starting the third Sunday of
September. To learn more about the week's events or more about teen
suicide, go to the Yellow Ribbon Suicide
Prevention Program website.
