The Question:

I lost my social security card back in the 1960s. Is it possible to order a replacement card online?

The Answer:

You can't order a new card online. However, you can download the application for a new card at the Social Security Administration website.

If you don't currently have a Social Security Number, you must apply for one. There is no charge. If you are replacing a card, you must provide original or certified copies of documents that prove your identity.

For more information, see our pages about Social Security.
