 The Question:
I've found your timeline of Yugoslavia
very helpful, but I have a question: Is Serbia considered a country
anymore, or is it renamed Yugoslavia? I hear news reporters calling
this land by various names and I'm not sure what's what
anymore!
The Answer:
Here is more information from our almanac entry on Serbia and Montenegro,
The current federation is the third state to call itself by
the name Yugoslavia, officially referring to itself as the Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia. The United States, however, does not
recognize it by that name because it does not consider the Serbian
and Montenegrin federation the successor state of Yugoslavia.
(This answer is from 1999, and is now way out of date. See the
above links for current information.)
