The Answer:
Chillicothe, which is located south of the current capital,
Columbus, was founded on
August 20, 1796 and served as Ohio's capital twice from
1803-09 and from 1812-16.
"Chillicothe" is a Shawnee word for a certain
clan. Several historic towns in Ohio were known by that name
because when a village was home to the principal chief of the tribe it
was given the name "chillicothe"—as he moved, so did the name.
Ironically, the modern Chillicothe was never the site of a Shawnee
town.
