Formula One race car driver Michael Schumacher of Germany was named the world's highest paid athlete of 2000 by Forbes Magazine in March 2001.
According the magazine, the four-time F1 champion made $59 million in winnings and endorsements—$6 million more than golfer Tiger Woods.
