 The Question:
I am looking for information on the inflation rate and cost of
living increase in the U.S. for the past 20 years.
The Answer:
There is a wealth of economy-related statistics at the Bureau of
Labor Statistics web
page. This includes a
comprehensive chart showing the average Consumer Price Index
(CPI) for U.S. cities for every month, begining in 1913.
The CPI is an index of the changes in the cost of goods and
services to a typical consumer, based on the costs of the same goods
and services at a base period. It is sometimes called the
cost-of-living index.
