 The Question:
On top of the Capitol Records building in Los Angeles there is a
light blinking a message in Morse code. What is the message
saying?
The Answer:
The red light blinks out the word "Hollywood" in Morse code every few seconds.
According to Seeing Stars in
Hollywood, the granddaughter of Samuel Morse threw the switch
on the blinking tower light in 1956. Reportedly the message has been
changed only once. In June 1992, to celebrate Capitol Records' 50th
anniversary, the light blinked "Capitol 50." In 1993 it was returned
to its original message.
The easily recognizable Capitol Records
building looks like a stack of records and is located near the
intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Los Angeles.
This has been the record company's headquarters since 1954.
