The Question:
We all know that when Ben Johnson was disqualified at the Seoul
Olympics, Carl Lewis consequently won the gold medal. Who were third
and fourth over the line, winning silver and bronze?
The Answer:
It's tough to forget Canada's Ben Johnson who won the 100-meter
run at the 1988 Summer Olympic
Games in Seoul, South Korea in a world-record time of 9.79
seconds, only to be stripped of his medal and the record for testing
positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
To answer your question, Carl Lewis, USA, (9.92 seconds) was
awarded the gold medal. Great Britain's Linford Christie (9.97) was
awarded the silver and Calvin Smith, USA, (9.99) was awarded the
bronze.
Incidentally, it was the first time in Summer Games history that all
three medal winners ran the race in under 10 seconds.
